This spring is located between a small bridge crossing over the Green River and the Green River Gorge Resort. Many people come to harvest the water for resale but others come to fill up in support of a healthy source of drinking water. Some locals claim they see up 200+ people stopping for the water a day. No information is currently available on the details of the age or name of the spring but it is available to all. The water flows out of a long black hose that is sometimes left submerged in the runoff.
I have been supplying spring water to the public for free for several years from the Green River Gorge Spring. Recently, I was told by the health dept that all drinking water supplied to the public must be purified by an ultraviolet light (just like strong sunlight). This is just a bureaucratic regulation and does not mean that there is anything wrong with the water. After considerable expense, I installed an UV light on the two hoses that go out to the road where people collect the spring water. To cover my costs I installed a donation box so people could pays what they thought the water was worth to them. At the time, I thought that I was supplying a valuable service to people and that they would be pleased. Nothing could be farther from the truth. All I ever got were negative comments like the ones above. Some people put money in the box but most seemed fill the box with nasty comments about how I was running greedy scam and that they were going to turn me into the police and various government agencies. If no one really wants or appreciates this excellent spring water I will simply remove the hoses and they can dip water out of the stream for free. So much for trying to do people a favor.
I hope the spring is still available for the public to use. Because I am new to the area and would like to visit the site for some fresh water next weekend.
Its a shame that while receiving this magical gift, people would want to “report”, “investigate”, “collect taxes”etc
Maybe they should drink more pure water? Because their sewer inside needs to be flushed well.

Everything is required to be pasteurized, homogenized, oxidized, “purified” etc. for a reason; they want to kill our food and drink so we continue to get sick so “health”/pharmaceutical/etc. corporations keep making mass $$$. Wonder why cancer, etc. keeps skyrocketing with all these regulations “protecting” us? But we’re supposed to be afraid of boogeyman ecoli ooooo.

165th st off of I-5 is an artisian well that was left by a land owner and is maintained by the city…tested and free to fill up containers. It hasn’t failed a test in over 60 years.
The green river gorge spring water is open 24 hours a day. The water is purified by an ultraviolet light an tested nearly every day. It has never had a bad report. A donation is required for whatever you feel the water is worth to you. The water pickup has recently been moved across the road where there is more parking and 7 water spouts. The Owner
We appreciate the availability of the water. It tastes great and we always donate even though we rarely ever see others donate when we are there. One thing I’d like to mention is the pH of the water is much lower that the artesian water source in Lynnwood. Green River Gorge spring water tests as 6 and sometimes 5.5-6. The Lynnwood source tests at 7.5-8. For that reason we often go to Lynnwood (right off of I-5, 165th St exit I believe), but its always great to diversify natural water sources. The two sources taste different from each other. One is more sweet in a way, but both taste great! If pH is something you like to be aware of make sure to make a comparison for the sake of your own well-being.
I appreciate all that you have done for people of the community! I live in Kent and could simply go to the local Windco and get water for .30 a gallon but instead choose to make the drive to the gorge because I believe in the purity and mineral rich water that should be free to all. The water bottle companies are the real scammers not you Sir! People are not REQUIRED to pay anything thus.. free water. If you dont want to donate then dont. I filled 20 gallons from this spot a week and a half ago. My wife and I began drinking the water right away. I ordered a water test to be sure before giving the water to my 8 month old. After a week I tested the water. The results were comparable to the seattle city water, except the spring water did show trace amounts of bacteria. We had drank a lot of the water for a entire week with no repercussions, but thought I would let that be known. I think its a good idea to test any water that you are consistently drinking.
What type of container did you use? Did you Bleach/Clean the container before getting water at this location? Bacteria can grow in fresh, living water.

My parents have been getting there water for free at this spring since the 80s and now we have to for past 5 yrs when we bought the house. It tastes great! We do periodically put in a donation and now that I’ve seen this post for first time now I know why for the UV light system. Thank you Jim for doing this. Do you also do periodic water testing? If yes can you somehow post those somehow so people can see it’s safe and UV lighting helps and worth the donations? ???? Maybe would help with the negativity if people saw this and understood. This spring is accessible in a parking area where people can pull right up to the many hoses. The flow is fast and jugs can be filled in seconds. The pool the spring runs into is crystal clear. I am extremely thankful that this spring has been made available to people for just a donation.
My partner and I visited the spring this past week to get water and today I noticed in the bottom of our dispenser some debris and a very tiny snail. I’m concerned about this and what this could mean for the health of the water and if it is drinkable? Can someone perhaps shed some light on this? I love this spring dearly but I felt it important to report. I have photos of the tiny snail if needed. Perhaps it’s from the hose resting on the ground?

I have been getting water there for about 4 years and noticed a strong mineral taste (not good, almost a bitter taste) last week and this week too. Never had a problem before. Not sure how safe it is to drink…and we have children that drink this.
The donation box seemed kinda weird too – as it gives no information as to who takes the $$$ and what exactly is done with it…but since it was placed in the middle of the creek on a large cement block – it appears to be “official”. I’d like know the responsible party as they could have the water purity tested and posted.
I have seen Crystal Springs trucks pulling up to the house next door to the hose in the creek and connect their hoses in the locked metal boxes. Somebody is making $$$
New sign here says this is purified spring water. The sign asks for donations because the equiptment, maintenance and electricity to purify the spring water costs lots of money. Strange that this is still claiming to be spring water when we don’t know what they are treated it with and who they are.
I am sure Crystal Springs water Company would like the publicity that they get there water from this same source and now someone is asking for donations to maintain the source. I have seen the Crystal Springs water tanker there. The IRS will want to make sure that the donations are being reported. So unless the donations sign is removed or a legitimate explanation is provided a phone call and letter to King 5 investigations, King County Sheriff, King County water resources, Crystal Spring water Company would be in order. The whole thing looks like a fraudulent and a scam. What cost are involved in spring water from the ground. If this post is removed as other have without explanation this will just confirm suspicions of the fraud and this will be reported as indicated.

I have been getting water now for a couple years. I never came to this website, but my health has gotten worse a few months ago, cardio heart issues. The question I have is I just read that the black hose that stays in the water is the one that you’re supposed to get the water out of, is that correct? What about the 6 lines that supply water? I noticed also that the water has a green look to it? Is that algae from the pond? Is there a concern? I thought spring water should be clear, which I noticed a green tent I first start using it? Just wondering if this was still a legitimate mineral spring water source and which hose should I get the water from? It sounds like there are two hoses? Just trying to clarify so that when I make the drive out there I don’t have to turn back without water. I have been enjoying the water from the spring for ten years. I was under the belief the spring and hoses were maintained by the city of Black Diamond. I did not leave any money and was curious about the box. Next time I will definitely pitch in. Keep up the good work.

FindASpring.org is the best resource for locating a spring near you. However, not all springs are on the map. First, check the map to see if there is a spring in your local area. If there is, look at the reviews and comments. Has anyone shared helpful information about flow rate or posted a water test result? Is the spring in a pristine area? Do a bit of research and make sure the spring is safe to drink from. If you have any doubt about the purity, don’t risk it and get a water test, HERE. If you don’t see a spring on the map in your area, there still might be some that aren’t listed yet. First, ask the older generation who have lived in your area a long time if they know. You can also ask people in your community who might already get spring water such as people at a health food store or at a farmers market. Another great option is to view A US forest service map, where many springs have been marked. You can view these maps through the Gaia GPS or All Trails hiking apps on your phone. The map overlay you want is USGS Topo. Not all are easily accessible or ideal for drinking, but some are and it can be a fun adventure to find them. We have found over half a dozen great springs this way.
Once you’ve found your spring, figure out how you are going to gather the water. Is it right on the side of the road and easy to access or do you have to hike to it? We recommend storing spring water in glass instead of plastic to preserve the purity of the water. It is better for the environment, your body, and the water. Even BPA free plastic has toxic chemicals that can leach into water and cause health issues. If you do want to use plastic for safety reasons when filling at the spring, we recommend transferring the water to glass as soon as possible. FindASpring is sponsored by Alive Waters, which offers beautiful reusable glass. They have a 2.5 gallon option, which is a convenient size for carrying that isn’t too heavy. They also sell handles that you can use to transport the jugs even more easily. If you have to hike to access the spring, we recommend putting the water jugs into an extra large backpack to hike the water out with ease. We use Osprey packs that hold 2 jugs each. You can also use a wheelbarrow or even a stroller depending on how easy a walk it is.

When you get to the spring, remember to first give back before you take. Springs are considered sacred in indigenous cultures around the world for their life giving water and also as a connection to the inner earth. A powerful and simple way to give back is to clean up. Is there any trash that needs to be collected? Could you move any dead leaves or sticks to improve the flow rate? Show up in service. Some other wonderful ways to give is with a moment of expressing verbal gratitude, singing songs to the water, offering the water an ethically sourced crystal, a feather, or some other physical gift. Flowers are a popular and beautiful thing to offer, but please be careful to source organic ones as most flowers from the store are sprayed with pesticides and can be toxic to put near a spring. Also, flowers can attract bugs as they decay, so it can be best to offer them to the flowing water directly or a little downstream from the spring head.
When gathering the water, fill the jug as close to the spring head as possible, never gather downstream. Be very careful as wet glass is extremely slippery. Make sure the lid is securely fastened. When transporting the spring water home, the jugs can sometimes slide around the car. Secure them in place or wrap them with towels or something so they don’t crash into each other.
How you store your spring water is essential. It is not pasteurized like spring water from the store, so it will start growing algae if left in direct sunlight. This is good because it means it’s alive! If the water you drink can’t even support the most basic life forms, how do you think it will support your body? Store your water in a cool, dark place such as a dark corner, pantry or closet. The fridge is ideal if you have room. Some people prefer to filter their water through a Berkey filter before drinking, but if the spring is pure, it’s not necessary. We drink our spring water completely unfiltered.
How long the water stays good for depends on how cold a temperature it’s stored at. Spring water is best fresh. We personally do not prefer to drink spring water past 2 weeks old. However, we know other people that will drink it at a month old. It’s great to get in a rhythm where you know how long the water lasts you and put your collection day on the calendar in advance.
I believe that water is calling us to reconnect with her in the deepest way, to gather our own water. Just like our ancestors did. Our ancestors didn’t have fancy water machines. They also didn’t create villages or settle where there was no water. Water was revered as the center of the community and the nodal point around which life could spiral out and take root.

After talking to officials, I learned that water from.this spring is regularly checked for coliforms and nitrates and that it has low mineral content, which on its own prevents bacterial growth). Analysis results are available online (Senta system). Results have been consistantly good for a long time.
So grateful that owner does his due diligence and that he shares this gift with us. Thank you!

Just wondering if this was still a legitimate mineral spring water source and which hose should I get the water from? It sounds like there are two hoses? Just trying to clarify so that when I make the drive out there I don’t have to turn back without water. I have been enjoying the water from the spring for ten years. I was under the belief the spring and hoses were maintained by the city of Black Diamond. I did not leave any money and was curious about the box. Next time I will definitely pitch in. Keep up the good work.
