Wilson Spring

Description:

Spring flows from a pipe, is well guarded by thick, thorny plants. The Wilson’s had a homestead on this site beginning in 1911. I imagine the pipe is from that time. Nothing but stone, concrete, and the pipe remains. A bent tree near the path points to the exact location of this water source. This spring is located on the upper edge of a canyon of sandstone carved by the flow of several springs. The area is the “driftless area,” having never been covered by glaciers.

Nearest Address

4175 Highway 23 N. Dodgeville, Wisconsin 53533

Directions from Nearest Address

In Governor Dodge Park, go all the way to the Northern end of the Cox Hollow Campground, and park near campsite 76. Follow a gravel trail, take a left on a grassy trail, walk past a scenic overlook and there will soon be a sign for the spring house (which is mostly dry inside), look to the left of the main trail and you will see a bent tree which points to where the piped spring is actually located, about fifteen feet off the trail to the left in thick brush.
