Description

It is a hotel built over a spring in 1867 that is supposed to be certified as being similar in mineral composition to the famous Carlsbad Springs in Germany. Their food is as SAD as it gets so I come prepared when I stay there. They have suites with kitchens.

I have had the food at the Boiler Room Restaurant (located in The Original Springs Hotel). It was great! hot! and the price was right. The mineral baths are incredible!

They used to sell the water in the 80's now they will give it to you for free if you bring jugs.

After reading some of your descriptions about other springs I would have thought you would do a better job of describing this wonderful, historic place. You didn't even really say anything about the spa-just that the water is “supposed” to be certified… Well at any time you can contact that hotel and they will send you the water report that shows the water has a very high mineral content and that it is comparable to the Carlsbad Springs. You could have also mentioned that this is the last operating mineral spring spa in Illinois. Oh wait, that would take some actual research though. The hotel has been there since the late 1800's. Some rooms could use a remodel but they just completely redid thier spa a couple of years ago (whirlpool tubs, steamrooms, dry heat rooms, large indoor pool). Just wanted to give some details that were left out.

Is the water good drinking water?  Is mineral water good or bad?  I am not so interested in bathing in water as I am in drinking it.
