St. Cabrini Spring

Description

Restored with hand pump, in a clearing surrounded by woods. Sounds silly but you need to bring a gallon of water to prime the pump. There is a small stream that runs along a stone wall if you want to use that for priming.

On a sign next to the spring: “When Mother Cabrini purchased this property in 1890 to establish an orphanage for girls, there was no water to be found on its grounds. Through the grace of God, Mother Cabrini told here sisters to dig in this spot. Water came forth, which continues to flow and to provide water for the children of St. Cabrini Home today.”

This is not a true spring, but a well. I have been getting water here recently after reading about it on this website. However, now that it's summer, I notice that the water has a rather “stinky” smell/taste to it. My feeling is that it's coming out to warm to actually keep the natural bacteria levels down.

So I'm not going to continue drinking this water.

    Anyone else have comments?

We went yesterday and the water is clear and sweet. Perhaps its just a winter watering hole.
