Description

The spring comes out of a small pile of fractured rocks about 50 feet from where I collect. When I found it, it was spread out and running down the hill in several places so I channelized it with 6 mil black plastic and dug a space below the consolidated stream for a 5 gallon bucket. The grasses and water cress has now grown back and the water comes out crystal clear. Apparently nobody else used it…amazing!

Some people have asked me if the water is safe, so I will attest that I have been drinking it exclusively for 4 months and am not only still alive, but thriving, and never sick. I think the water may contain a bit of calcium carbonate because there are deposits evident. I think this is healthy though…strong bones.

Take hwy 41 about 1/4 mile west towards Morro Bay. It is on the right (uphill) side of the hwy; about 20 feet up the hillside from a small concrete culvert (8 feet across), the dead give-away is water running down alongside the hwy for 100 yards below the spring. Use extreme caution when pulling over or out; it is on a very curvy section. There is a small space to park across and down about 30 feet, but then you have to run across traffic loaded with heavy buckets. My last time I just parked right beside the spring and had 2 feet between my van and the road edge…much easier and safer I think.

Description:

There is a pipe coming out of the right side of the road just before you see the mailbox with the address above. If your coming from St. Helena this water source is a little closer than Rattlesnake Spring and chances are the wait will also be less since it does not get as much traffic. The water is very clean and good tasting. I haven’t been to Rattlesnake Spring but someone who I talked with who has been to both said they taste similar. I have not tested the water but would like to do that in the future.

If you are coming from 29/Sonoma Calistoga you want to pass downtown Anders. You want to go a couple of miles and look to your right to find the pipe coming out of the side of the road with a wood plank on the ground. You’ve just passed it if you see the mailboxes on your left starting with the address 1435. You can see the pipes and wood plank if you view Google street view very carefully.

Description

There are about three bridges on rte.74 that cross over marshy areas as you approach lake hemet from the east. This spring is located on the south side of the road at the first bridge. Just look for a pull-off next to the bridge, it’s the only one. Local peoples are drinking this water, but I opted not to since it had a TDS of 141.

Description

Minerally taste, clear, very little sediment. cool but, not ice cold. Piped.

The water was named due to travelers who would be severely thirsty and drink too much of the water when they found it. Not because the water itself is toxic and gives one a belly ache!

From Ojai: Take hwy 33 toward maricopa. Pass matilija canyon and wheeler gorge. A few miles past you will see mile mark 22 with waterfall on left. Hike up past the waterfall and find the pipe. Yum.

Description

Cold spring coming from the volcanic rock of Mt. Tamalpais, right near the San Andreas Fault. There is a sign that says “Non-Potable Water” but the “Potable” is scratched away and replaced with the word “Profit.” Multiple pipes coming out of cliff, some flowing water, some not. Easy access right along road for all SF Bay Area spring hunters. 1000 feet below is a hot spring on Red Rock Beach only accessible as a hot pool during very low night time tides.

Between lakeview point and the big bear dam. Water runs from hillside and flows into small stream on north side of highway 18. Located in a small turnout behind a dirt hill. Strong flow great taste beautiful wildflowers.

Rattlesnake Spring is a Spring in the state of California (county of Napa), located at latitude – longitude coordinates of N 38.67213 and W -122.58971. It is at the highest part of Lake County Highway (Hwy 29) just south of Middletown. It is literally at the NW corner of Napa county where driving north brings one into Lake County and hiking west brings one right into Sonoma county in Robert Louis Stevenson St. Park. It is on the west side of the road. When flowing, there may be a few cars in line to fill up. I have been told that it would flow all year but if occasionally plugged by the county. Many Lake county people prefer it over Harbin. However, I have not personally had it, though am eager to make sure it is quality.
