Description

This is a roadside spring which seeps out of the hillside about twenty five feet above the roadside, and then is channeled to the roadside in a cast iron pipe. The water remains clear even when there has been a lot of rain, and normal creeks turn brown with the tannins. It has a steady flow which will fill a five gallon carboy in a couple of minutes.

The spring is largely ignored by most of the locals except for a few devoted spring water enthusiasts, but there is a highway pullout across the road and a bit of a driveway leading directly to the spring, so it has garnered a certain amount of respect in the past.

“Some locals have been drinking this water for years. Not much seems to be known about the history of it including testing. I hope to explore it more in the future and bring more information to light as I learn things. I also dream of building a better housing/ piping arrangement than what is currently in place. It certainly looks like a bonafide spring, because I did a hike up the hill behind where it seeps from the ground, and the ground is dry all the way up the hill to the summit. Description

You park on the right and walk across the highway- there is a 5 inch wide (several feet long) or so black pvc pipe sticking right out of the rock wall. Sometimes you will see other people there getting water!

Just north of Fairbanks, in the town of Fox. At the juction of Route 2 (Elliot Hwy) & 6 (Steese Hwy), go north on the Elliot Highway. The spring is 0.4 miles past this junction (on the Elliot Highway) on the left. The spring is marked, and has a paved turnout for parking.

Directions from Nearest Address

From Eagle River Loop Road, turn onto Skyline Drive and follow up the mountain to its end at a red gate. Ignore name changes of the street as you progress and continue taking the switchback road uphill to the end. The road splits at the parking area, one continuing uphill to a radio tower several hundred yards away. Take the level road that continues straight on foot several hundred yards until you reach the man-made reservoir at the abandoned farm. You will see a capped standpipe on the West side of the body of water with a spigot that allows it to flow into the bank of the reservoir.

Description

I had this water tested by a local water filter outlet. In addition to the information below, I was told the alkilinity level is 170…city average is 70. And hardness, based on calcium and manganese is 11…a nearby waterfall was 6…I suspect city is much lower, but I forgot to ask.

On North side of highway directly across from a pullout and within a few hundred yards of the Mile 109 highway marker, Anchorage side. This is just South of Beluga Point and McHugh Creek on the Seward Highway on the South end of Anchorage, Alaska.

Head down Seward Hwy, pass Potters Marsh…pass McHugh Creek…start looking for sign posts shortly after McHugh Creek…when you see mile 110, keep your owes out for the pull off on the right and the spring tube on the left…and often a line of people gathering water
