Description
The spring is one that is comming out of the side of a bluff along the Mississippi. and it comes from inside Blackhawk cave. The water comes from in the cave and you can see how the water has carved the cave. Once it comes out i flows down a waterfall. Its a very beautiful place there is lush vegetation all around and there are frogs and other creatures that live in the water as it pools and flows down the bluff. To get to the water you can park by the log cabin museum and the band shell thet overlook the river. You then see a sign that says “Trail to Blackhawk Spring” follow it down about 75 yds and you reach the cave. Personally I like to go back about 15 ft. into cave were the water is pouring out of the side of the wall. I fill up my jug thank the spring, and head back.
The spring was used by Chief Blackhawk and his warriors when they were in the Burlington Area. Which they called “Shoquoquon” (Shok-ko-kon), meaning Flint Hills.
